Llandeilo Lit Fest – Come Along & Say Hello!

wild-flowers-flowers-plant-macro-40797

The Bank Holiday at the end of April will soon be here, and with it comes a new & exciting event – Llandeilo Literature Festival!

Starting on Thursday, 27th April, there’ll be lots of events to enjoy – readings & book signings, and discussions, including an amazing session with Jasper Fforde, author of the ‘Thursday Next’ series, & Jodi Taylor.

Many of the events are free, but for those that are ticketed, booking in advance is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. Find full details of the programme and how to book here: Events

The festival ends with events on Sunday 30th, and with so many wonderful places to eat and gorgeous independent shops to browse in Llandeilo, what could be a better way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend? If you love books – it’s the place to be!

Oh, and I’ll be doing a FREE session on Saturday, 29th @3pm in Eve’s Toyshop. Details here. I’ll be reading from my new book St David’s Day is Cancelled and from my other books too. And I’ll be generally having fun and making a fool of myself with sound effects and silly hats! Bring the children / grandchildren along – or if you’re interested in writing for children yourself, drop by for the session and have a chat afterwards. I’m always happy to talk about writing!20140821_145759-MOTION

And along with lots of other local authors, I’ll have a table in Llandeilo’s Civic Hall during the day on Saturday, where I’ll be selling signed copies of my books. I’ll be very happy to chat about all aspects of writing & getting published in Wales, too. Doors open at 11am – so please come along and say hello!Cwmbran WHSmith

Cover Reveal – ‘St David’s Day is Cancelled’

And here it is – Huw Aaron’s wonderful cover for ‘St David’s Day is Cancelled’. It’s published on February 1st – and I can’t wait!cover-small

Yrs 1 & 2 at Ysgol y Castell Kidwelly

I had a lovely time once again visiting the wonderful Ysgol y Castell in my home town of Kidwelly. I used to be a teacher there and I love going back to see everyone.img_2244

The children in Years 1&2 are exploring festivals and celebrations. They’ve been reading ‘Welsh Cakes and Custard’ as part of their theme. It was great fun answering their questions and they joined in with sound effects as I read a story from ‘Three Cheers for Wales’. They’re very good at making frog and monster noises!

Year 2 also got a sneak peek at my newest book ‘St David’s Day is Cancelled’. I’m looking forward to taking them a copy when it’s published next month.

A big DIOLCH YN FAWR to Ysgol y Castell for inviting me in to school – see you again soon!

St. David’s Day is Cancelled!

I’m so excited about my next book St. David’s Day is Cancelled! The wonderful illustrations by the brilliantly talented Huw Aaron are all in place and the book is almost ready to be printed. It’ll be published in time for St. David’s Day – which hopefully won’t be cancelled! – and I’ll be on a book signing tour(!) during February (more details on this page soon). I’m looking forward to it already.

I can’t reveal the cover just yet, but here’s a sneaky peek at the title page and Huw’s illustration of Nia.

And here’s a bit about the book:

When their headteacher, Mrs Right – who’s most definitely wrong about some things – decides to cancel St. David’s Day, the Seren Wen newspaper team know that with just a week to go they have to act fast. They need to get the whole school to put on the best concert ever. But can they do it in time? And will anyone want to help them?

Can they save St. David’s Day?

A Trio of Signings

I’ve had a lovely run-up to Christmas this year with three book signings in three of my favourite WHSmiths shops – in Cardiff;20161126_112339

in Cwmbran – a big thank you to Keeley and her mum for this photo;20161126_151351

and finally in my home town of Llanelli.p1040381

There’ve been Welsh cakes galore – from M&S, who don’t burn their baking the way I reliably do –20161202_171118 and lots of interesting people to chat to. A huge thank you to everyone who bought copies of my books, and to the shop managers and staff. They’re all very supportive, and they’ve even agreed to have me back in the new year with my new book St. David’s Day is Cancelled. I can’t wait! But now it’s time to hang up my book signing antlers for another year!!20161125_211433

The Wonderful World of Book Fairs

This year I discovered the wonderful world of book fairs. If you’ve never been to any, give them a try – you won’t be disappointed! The first was in Tenby, in a hall packed with local writers and book enthusiasts.

I spent the day chatting to people about writing and signing copies of my books – bliss! The Tenby Book Fair got me even more interested and I signed up for three others – the Carmarthen Book Fair (organised by Thompson Authors)wendy-book-fair

the Carmarthen Library Book fair (arranged by Catrin Simon of Carmarthen County Council)

and Llandeilo Xmas Book Fair (organised by Christoph Fischer).20161210_095835

I thoroughly enjoyed them all. I’ve met so many other writers – it’s been amazing to discover all the talent in our little corner of Wales. And it’s been wonderful to see how many people truly love reading and want to support local authors. I’ve already signed up for two book fairs next year – in Narberth in September, and before that Llandeilo Lit Fest in April. I’m hoping there’ll be a few more to sign up to in 2017 too!

June Book Signings

WH Smith Cardigan Wendy WhiteA very big THANK YOU to WHSmith in Cardigan and to Waterstones in Aberystwyth for letting me come and sign my books in their shops again. I had a wonderful welcome, as always, and met lots of interesting and creative people. Thank you to everyone who came along for a chat and to buy books. I hope to see you all again soon!
