Yr 2 Glyncollen Primary School

DSCN0393I’m so delighted to be able to add these photos of my visit to Year 2 at Glyncollen Primary School in Morriston to my website.

I had a lovely afternoon there and I’m very grateful to Mrs Davies for inviting me to read my stories to her class.

A big THANK YOU, too, to the fabulous actors who took part in the cookery role play. It was lots of fun! Emyr Rhys and Da-cu were very good at making a mess and Nain wasn’t too pleased when she got home after shopping!

Mrs Davies used my book, ‘Welsh Cakes and Custard’, as the basis for lots of lessons during March. Year 2 made cawl, held food tasting sessions and they recorded their results on graphs. They even made a shop for Hen Fenw Fach Cydweli in their classroom!

And finally, the class took a trip to Kidwelly Castle. It looks like they had a great day out!

A very big DIOLCH! to Mrs Davies for sending me these photos. And a huge THANK YOU to Olivia who wrote a wonderful letter on behalf of her class to thank me for my visit!

(What a fantastic and inspiring banner on the school fence -“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” So very true!)

Llandeilo Lit Fest – Come Along & Say Hello!

wild-flowers-flowers-plant-macro-40797

The Bank Holiday at the end of April will soon be here, and with it comes a new & exciting event – Llandeilo Literature Festival!

Starting on Thursday, 27th April, there’ll be lots of events to enjoy – readings & book signings, and discussions, including an amazing session with Jasper Fforde, author of the ‘Thursday Next’ series, & Jodi Taylor.

Many of the events are free, but for those that are ticketed, booking in advance is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. Find full details of the programme and how to book here: Events

The festival ends with events on Sunday 30th, and with so many wonderful places to eat and gorgeous independent shops to browse in Llandeilo, what could be a better way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend? If you love books – it’s the place to be!

Oh, and I’ll be doing a FREE session on Saturday, 29th @3pm in Eve’s Toyshop. Details here. I’ll be reading from my new book St David’s Day is Cancelled and from my other books too. And I’ll be generally having fun and making a fool of myself with sound effects and silly hats! Bring the children / grandchildren along – or if you’re interested in writing for children yourself, drop by for the session and have a chat afterwards. I’m always happy to talk about writing!20140821_145759-MOTION

And along with lots of other local authors, I’ll have a table in Llandeilo’s Civic Hall during the day on Saturday, where I’ll be selling signed copies of my books. I’ll be very happy to chat about all aspects of writing & getting published in Wales, too. Doors open at 11am – so please come along and say hello!Cwmbran WHSmith

Marvellous March!

What a month March has been! The Welsh Books Council chose ‘St David’s Day is Cancelled’ as their book of the month which was absolutely fantastic. Then St David’s Day  kicked things off (thank goodness it wasn’t cancelled!) with World Book Day hot on its heels – there’ve been  interviews for S4C  & Showboat TV, promotions & lots of fun school visits. And I was delighted when my new book was spotted in Waterstones, Cardiff – I’m so happy to be surrounded by Allan Ahlberg, Enid Blyton, Roddy Doyle, Horatio Clare and Jill Tomlinson on this table!!

Photos from February half term book signings for ‘St David’s Day is Cancelled!’

Thank you to everyone who came along to WHSmith Cwmbran, Llanelli & Cardigan, and to Waterstones Aberystwyth & Carmarthen. And especially to Kayleigh, William & Martha, Owain, Tomos & Jacob, Miss Crane of Griffithstown Primary School, Jonathan, and Nia Griffith MP. I hope you all enjoy your books and thank you for the lovely Amazon reviews!

St. David’s Day is Cancelled!

I’m so excited about my next book St. David’s Day is Cancelled! The wonderful illustrations by the brilliantly talented Huw Aaron are all in place and the book is almost ready to be printed. It’ll be published in time for St. David’s Day – which hopefully won’t be cancelled! – and I’ll be on a book signing tour(!) during February (more details on this page soon). I’m looking forward to it already.

I can’t reveal the cover just yet, but here’s a sneaky peek at the title page and Huw’s illustration of Nia.

And here’s a bit about the book:

When their headteacher, Mrs Right – who’s most definitely wrong about some things – decides to cancel St. David’s Day, the Seren Wen newspaper team know that with just a week to go they have to act fast. They need to get the whole school to put on the best concert ever. But can they do it in time? And will anyone want to help them?

Can they save St. David’s Day?
